Why base yourself in Murwillumbah
Murwillumbah is the northern end of the trail, which means you can ride out and back without moving the car, or take a shuttle one way and ride home. It is also the only town at either end with a full main street, a supermarket, pubs and a gallery, so the non-riding half of the trip has somewhere to go. The trail guide has the distances and the hire operators.

Planning the ride from here
Murwillumbah to Burringbar and back is about 32 kilometres and suits most people as a half day. The full run to Crabbes Creek and back is 48 kilometres, which is a solid day; most riders doing that arrange a one-way shuttle instead. Book hire and shuttles ahead on weekends and in school holidays.
If you are not bringing bikes, Valley E-bikes is a few minutes away in Murwillumbah with a fleet of around 70 e-bikes. They ask for 24 hours' notice, so it is worth sorting when you book the room rather than on the morning.

The twin room is the one two or four riders usually take. The king room suits a couple, and the king suite has a lounge area if you are staying several nights. All three have the same kitchenette and free parking.

Murwillumbah is the northern trailhead and the practical base for the Tweed section. Gallery Motel is about five minutes from the trailhead with free on-site parking, so you can leave the car and the bike rack in one place for the whole stay.
Is there somewhere to keep bikes?
