Village pubs worth the drive
- Uki: 15 minutes toward Wollumbin, and the prettiest drive of the lot.
- Tumbulgum: 15 minutes north on the river, and the best position of any pub in the valley. Go for a late lunch and sit outside.
- Burringbar: 20 minutes south, and roughly the midpoint of the rail trail, which is why riders stop there.
- Stokers Siding: small, on the rail trail, and a first stop out of Murwillumbah.
If you arrive late
This is a country town. Most kitchens close by 8 or 8:30 and the clubs trade a little later. If you are getting in after dark, eat on the way up or use the kitchenette in your room, which has a microwave, a fridge and a kettle. There is a supermarket in town open into the evening.
Getting back
Gallery Motel is about five minutes from the middle of town by car and there is free parking on site. Taxis exist but are thin on the ground after 9pm, so if you plan to drink, book one before you go out rather than after.
